Ladislav Jandásek

Ladislav Jandásek ( November 19, 1887 in Moravany u Kyjova , Austria-Hungary - September 5, 1942 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a Czechoslovak teacher. He joined the Obrana národa resistance group , was arrested for this in 1940 and died in Auschwitz.

Life

Ladislav Jandásek studied Czech and French at the Charles University in Prague , graduating in 1910. He then became a teacher in Kostelec u Kyjova , from 1912 he taught in Hodonín . His teaching activities were interrupted by the First World War. In 1914 he became a gunner in Krakow , in 1915 he came to the Balkan front, after which he was transferred to Italy. In 1920 he became a teacher in the III. Brno State Gymnasium (later this gymnasium became the 2nd State Gymnasium). Here he was appointed school inspector in July 1938. On September 9, 1940, he was arrested for participating in the Obrana národa (Defense of the Nation) resistance group and lost his position as school inspector. He was released on September 30, 1940, but arrested again exactly one year later, on September 30, 1941. He came to the Gestapo - Prison Pod Kaštany . On June 11, 1942, he was deported to Auschwitz . There the number 39296 was tattooed on him and he was taken to block 19A. Ladislav Jandásek's death was reported for September 5, 1942 at 6:55 a.m.

On June 27, 1921, Ladislav married Jandásek. With his wife Božena, née Kubíková, he had two children - Jarmila (born 1922) and Miroslav (born 1923).

Activities for Sokol Brno I

Jandásek was a member of Sokols Brno I and was very active here. He worked as the editor of the writings of the Sokol co-founder Miroslav Tyrš and wrote about the history of Sokol himself.

Memorials

Memorial stone for Ladislav Jandásek

The following memorials were set up for Jandásek:

  • On June 16, 1946, a memorial plaque was unveiled in the grammar school at Vranovská 65/01 in Brno for the teachers and students of the school who were victims of the occupation
  • On June 25, 1946, Mokrohorská Street in Brno was renamed Jandáskova
  • On October 25, 1947 a memorial plaque was unveiled for the victims of the occupation on Moravian Square 6/1 in Brno. At that time it was a building of the state school board, today the Supreme Administrative Court is located in this building.
  • On September 10, 2015, a memorial stone was laid in Brno at Soukopova 4/529:
