Péter Székely

Péter Székely (* 8. February 1955 in Budapest , † 31 August 2003 ) was a Hungarian Chess - Grandmaster chess coach and chess journalist.

Székely's greatest success was the 2nd place at the Junior European Championship (U20) 1974 in Groningen with 0.25 Sonneborn-Berger points behind the winner John Nunn , whom he defeated in direct comparison with Black. Székely became International Master in 1976 .

Székely won the tournaments in Zalaegerszeg 1974 and Bagneux 1986. He was always very cautious and often played a draw. Székely was the trainer of the Polgár sisters, he was second to Gyula Sax (1979) and Zoltán Ribli (1982) in their zone tournaments . He died at the age of 48 after a heart attack.

Székely's last Elo rating was 2408, his highest rating of 2505 he reached in January 1994.

In Hungary, Székely played for various clubs, so he took part in the European Club Cup with MTK Budapest FC and Törökvész Budapest and played in the Hungarian team championship for DOZSO SE Pécs in the 1999/2000 season and for 2001/02 Vízügyi SC and in the 2002/03 season for Gödöllői Sakkbarátok Egyesülete .
