Győző Victor Forintos (born July 30, 1935 in Budapest ; † December 6, 2018 ) was a Hungarian chess master .

Life

Forintos received the title of International Master from FIDE in 1963 and the title of Grand Master in 1974 . He won the Hungarian Championship in 1968/69.

He played his last rated games in the Hungarian team championship 2017/18.

National team

He played for Hungary at the Chess Olympiads in 1958 , 1964 , 1966 , 1970 and 1972 and in 1974 in Nice . In 1958 in Munich he won gold on the reserve board (10.5 points from 13 games). With the Hungarian team he won silver medals in Siegen in 1970 and in Skopje in 1972, and bronze in Havana in 1966 . Forintos was even more successful when it participated in European team championships . In 1961 in Oberhausen he won bronze with the team and achieved the third-best individual result on the ninth board, in 1965 in Hamburg he reached third place with the team and won the individual ranking on the sixth board, in 1970 in Kapfenberg he was second with the team and won the individual ranking on the ninth board, while he reached third place with the team in Bath in 1973 and achieved the second-best individual result on the sixth board.

In Hungary, Forintos played at MTK Budapest in the 1970s and 1980s , with whom he took part in the European Club Cup five times . From 1999 to 2006 he played with Hajdúböszörményi Sakkozók Egyesülete , from 2008 to 2010 with Pénzügyőr Sport Egyesület . In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he had individual missions for the Balatonfüredi SC . In Germany, Forintos was registered with SC Stadthagen in the 1st Bundesliga in the 1992/93 season . He was not used, but represented SC Stadthagen at the European Club Cup in 1993.
