Gábor Papp (born May 4, 1987 in Pécs ) is a Hungarian chess player .

Life

Papp won or occupied top places in some tournaments: twice 1st place in the Hungarian U12 championship (1998 and 1999), 2nd place at the First Saturday GM tournament in Budapest (May 2004), 3rd place at the 11th Béla Papp Memorial (2004), 1st place at the Hungarian U-18 Championship (2005) and 2nd place at the first Gedeon Barcza Memorial in Budapest (2008).

Papp has held the title of International Master since 2004 . He fulfilled the required standards at the 2001 Junior World Championships in Athens , at an IM tournament in Balatonlelle in June 2003 and at a GM tournament in Paks in November 2003. He has been a grandmaster since 2011, and he met the standards at the 24th Open in Cappelle -la-Grande in February 2008, in June 2010 at the Mitropacup in Chur and in December 2010 at the Open in Zadar .

Papp has been playing with the ASE Paks in the NB I. Szabó László csoport, the highest Hungarian league, since 1999. In Germany he has played for BCA Augsburg , after playing for ESV Nickelhütte Aue until 2019 , in the Slovak Extra League since 2011 for ŠK Slovan Bratislava , with whom he became Slovak team champion in 2013 , in the Czech Extra League in the 2016/17 season for the second team of the ŠK JOLY Lysá nad Labem , in the Austrian Bundesliga since the 2015/16 season for LA Kraftanlage Ottakring and in the Danish Skakligaen since 2018 for the Xtracon Køge team , with whom he became champions in 2019 . In 2016, Papp took part in the European Club Cup with the Romanian club CSM Baia Mare . In September 2019, Papp married the German women's grandmaster Sarah Hoolt .
