Bonneil belongs to the canton of Essômes-sur-Marne (until 2015: canton of Château-Thierry ) and the communal association of the Région de Château-Thierry . The inhabitants are called Bonneillats .

Bonneil is about 41 kilometers south of Soissons and about 76 kilometers east-northeast of Paris . Bonneil is surrounded by the neighboring communities Essômes-sur-Marne in the north and west, Azy-sur-Marne in the south and east and Romeny-sur-Marne in the southwest.
