Chartèves is a French municipality with 352 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Thierry and is part of the canton of Essômes-sur-Marne (formerly: Condé-en-Brie).

Chartèves is about 12 kilometers east-northeast of Château-Thierry on the north bank of the Marne .

history

During the First World War , Chartèves suffered considerable damage from the fighting on the Marne . From 1974 to 1978 the municipality was united with the neighboring municipality of Mont-Saint-Père under the name Charmont-sur-Marne.
