Essômes-sur-Marne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bouresches in the north and north-west, Château-Thierry in the north and north-east, Nogentel in the east, Chézy-sur-Marne in the south and south-east, Azy-sur-Marne and Bonneil in the south, Charly- sur-Marne in the southwest, Coupru in the west and Lucy-le-Bocage in the northwest.
The A4 autoroute runs along the north-western edge of the municipality .
