Le Charmel is a French municipality with 316 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Thierry and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois .

geography

Le Charmel is located around 16 kilometers east-northeast of Château-Thierry south of the Autoroute A4 (Autoroute de l'Est) and the LGV Est européenne and north of Barzy-sur-Marne on the D3 departmental road. The municipality includes the extensive grounds of the Château du Charmel , which was once owned by the Rougé family .

Toponymy

The place was called "Charmello" in 1191 (derived from charm - hornbeam).
