Essises is a French municipality with 417 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Thierry and is part of the canton of Essômes-sur-Marne .

geography

The municipality in the Omois natural landscape west of the D1 department road and around 10 km south of Château-Thierry is located on the Ru du Dolloir stream, which flows into the Marne in Chézy-sur-Marne . It includes the districts of Les Petites Noues, Marlevoux, Arrouard, Les Maisons, Les Caquerets, La Vacherie and Les Perdreaux. Le Point du Jour, Pompierre and Le Fayet. In addition to Chézy in the north, neighboring communities are Nesles-la-Montagne and Viffort in the east, Montfaucon in the south and La Chapelle-sur-Chézy in the west.

history

The place name developed from the Gallo-Roman Asselum. Viticulture fell victim to phylloxera in 1870 and was never restarted.
