Alfonso Thiele (born April 5, 1922 in Istanbul , † July 15, 1986 in Novara ) was an Italian racing car driver who also had US citizenship.

Career

Alfonso Thiele was a sports car driver who had some successes in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In 1957 he won the class up to 750 cm³ in a Fiat - Abarth at the Mille Miglia . In 1959 he won his class at the GT race in Monza with a Ferrari 250GT .

At the beginning of the 1960s he was a works driver for Abarth and Alfa Romeo . In 1964 he was together with Sergio Pedretti in an Alfa Romeo TZ , one place behind his teammate Roberto Bussinello , fourth in the Targa Florio .

Thiele only had one appearance in a monoposto . In 1960 he drove a Cooper T51 at the Italian Grand Prix . After a gearbox failure, he had to give up the race at halftime.
