The son of the legendary Bentley Boy and winner of Le Mans Sammy Davis (who later became sports editor of Autocar magazine) Colin Davis was temporarily an advertising agent who drove in a 500cc Formula 3 cooperative race before heading to Italy , from where he started his own racing career. He took part in two automobile world championship Grand Prix and reached the Grand Prix of Italy in a Cooper - Maserati of the Scuderia Centro Sud the 11th place. He also took part in various Grand Prix outside of the automobile world championship.
Between 1958 and 1966, Colin Davis competed seven times in the Le Mans 24-hour race. On his debut in 1958, he and Alejandro de Tomaso reached eleventh place in the overall standings.
He achieved his best placement in Le Mans in 1966 in a works Porsche 906. With partner Jo Siffert , he finished fourth overall.
