Karl Orthuber (born March 24, 1928 ) is a former Austrian racing driver and entrepreneur.

Racing career

Karl Orthuber, who is wrongly named as German in some publications, sporadically drove car races in the 1960s. He became Austrian national champion in touring car racing and competed in many airfield races . In 1961 he came as a surprise to a Porsche - works outing in the sports car world championship . At the 4-hour race in Pescara in 1961 , the completely unknown Orthuber was Edgar Barth's partner in the Porsche 718 RS . Behind Lorenzo Bandini and Giorgio Scarlatti , who started the race in a Ferrari 250TRI from Scuderia Centro Sud , Orthuber and Barth came second overall.

Entrepreneur

The Orthuber car dealership is one of the oldest car repair shops in Austria. In 1900 Carl Orthuber, the grandfather, founded a department store with a small repair shop in Schottwien , Lower Austria . His son, Karl Orthuber's father, turned the department store into a car workshop in 1927. Orthuber became a Volkswagen dealer in 1951 and expanded to the west and east of the Semmering in the following decades . Locations were created in Mürzzuschlag , Langenwang , Neunkirchen and Gloggnitz . In 1983, a small power plant was opened, which now enables extensive entry into e-mobility . After Karl Orthuber withdrew in 2000, the management passed to his children.
