Krusha e Madhe ( Albanian also Krushë e Madhe , Serbian Велика Круша Velika Kruša ) is a village in the Rahovec municipality in Kosovo .
geography
Krusha e Madhe is located in the valley of the White Drin , which flows about two kilometers southwest of the village. Between the village and the river bank there are extensive agricultural areas. Neighboring villages are northwest Celina , northeast Nagac and southeast Krusha e Vogël belonging to the municipality of Prizren .
history
After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia during the First Balkan War in 1912, the Serbian government set up a military administration on site, with Krusha e Madhe becoming part of the newly created municipality of Mala Kruša (now Krusha e Vogël ).
During the war in Kosovo , Serbian troops carried out an attack on Krusha e Madhe from March 25 to 28, 1999, initiated by gunfire in the early morning hours of March 25. In the following there was looting and arson in the place. As part of the Krusha e Madhe massacre, people were executed at different locations at several times. 241 people were killed and around three quarters of the houses were set on fire. Many of the bodies were burned by the Serbian police, and an unspecified part was removed with an excavator. To date, over 63 villagers are missing. In particular, 140 women became widows who were later to come together in a club.

According to the last census from 2011, Krusha e Madhe has 4473 inhabitants, of which 4440 (99.26%) are Albanians .

economy
Krusha e Madhe is agriculturally oriented. The place was already known for growing vegetables, especially paprika , in earlier times .
In 2005 war widows founded the association Gratë e Veja ("the widows"), in 2010 an agricultural cooperative developed from it ( Kooperativa Bujqësore Krusha ). It also produces processed foods such as ajvar and pickled vegetables . In the meantime (2019) over 600 tons of vegetables are processed annually, around 70% are exported abroad.
