Chrismon (in the publisher's spelling: chrismon, the evangelical magazine) is a monthly magazine of the evangelical church , published in the community work of evangelical journalism, Frankfurt am Main.

history

The magazine came out for the first time in October 2000 (until December 2000 under the name Chrisma ) and emerged from the Deutsches Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt (1997-2000); previously it was called the Sunday paper (1948–1967; 1995–1997). The EKD subsidizes chrismon with four million euros annually. Ursula Ott is editor-in-chief. Anne Buhrfeind is deputy editor-in-chief. Arnd Brummer is the managing editor. The management is held by the director Jörg Bollmann and the publishing director Bert Wegener. The scope of the journal is, according to findings of the AWA 2019 ( Allensbach advertiser analysis ) 1.66 million readers.

The sender-financed project with reports, guides, photos, etc. a. of geo- reporters is 1.6 million copies of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and the daily newspapers Altmark Zeitung , Die Welt , Die Welt Kompakt , Dresdner Latest News , Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia), Hannoversche Allgemeine , Kölner Stadtanzeiger , Kreiszeitung (Syke), Leipziger Volkszeitung , Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung , Neue Presse , Süddeutsche Zeitung , Welt am Sonntag (only Northern Germany) and Westfälischer Anzeiger as a supplement.

The magazine is also available as an extended edition by subscription : chrismon plus (responsible editor: Burkhard Weitz) nationwide and in special editions for the regional churches in Baden and the Rhineland contains a total of over 80 pages, and thus 24 pages more. These mainly contain church and community-related topics, for example the literary series Ten Commandments, ten stories , the series "revised", for which Christoph Kähler , head of the revision of the Luther Bible , explains changes to the Luther Bible 2017.

According to its self-description, the magazine sees itself “as the journalistic home of all readers who are interested in Christian topics and values”. The topic is “People who master life in all its challenges confidently and responsibly. Those who face their respective life situations and grow from them, who grapple with the comforting power of love, faith and church in different situations ”.

In addition to the magazine, there is a book, CD and calendar program under the name Edition Chrismon (publisher's spelling: edition chrismon ), which has been managed by the Evangelical Publishing House (EVA) since 2016 .

The editors are the Synod Preses Irmgard Schwaetzer , the Preses of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, Annette Kurschus and the EKD Council Chairman Heinrich Bedford-Strohm . The managing editor is Arnd Brummer .

The publisher is part of the joint venture of Protestant journalism in Frankfurt am Main .
