The Circuit d'Ain-Diab is a former Formula 1 road circuit that was built in 1957 southwest of Ain-Diab in Morocco . He used the existing coastal road and the main road from Casablanca to Azemmour .

history

The 7.618-kilometer circuit was designed by the Automobile Club of Morocco, and it took just six weeks to plan and build. In 1957 a Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Grand Prix of Morocco , was held here, but it was not part of the World Championship. On October 19, 1958, the Grand Prix of Morocco was the final of the 1958 Formula 1 World Championship . The race was won by the Briton Stirling Moss . However, second place was enough for his rival Mike Hawthorn to secure the title by one point. The race was overshadowed by a serious accident involving Stuart Lewis-Evans . Evans died six days later from his burn injuries.
