The Sonoma Raceway (until 2011: Infineon Raceway ) is a race track between the hills in northern California , near the city of Sonoma , north of San Francisco .

The circuit has a total length of 4.05 km (2.52 miles) with twelve curves. For years, a shortened version with a length of 3.14 km (1.95 miles) was used for races in the NASCAR series, using an abbreviation built in 1998. A third variant created in 2003 with a length of 3.57 km (2.22 miles) is mainly used in motorcycle races. Within the circuit there is also a ¼-mile stretch for drag racing . The audience capacity is 102,000.

The construction of the course started in 1967, the opening took place in the following year. The current lap record is held by the German Marco Werner with an average speed of 178.06 km / h (110.641 mph), driven on July 17, 2004 in an Audi R8 LMP .
