The Texas World Speedway was an oval track in College Station , Texas . It is two miles long and is often referred to as the twin track of Michigan International Speedway because it is identical in shape and length and was built over the same period. In contrast to Michigan Speedway, Texas World Speedway has not been part of a major racing series such as NASCAR or the IndyCar Series since the 1980s . The reason for this was an increasing neglect of the condition of the track.
Since 2006, this super speedway has become increasingly important as a test track , as NASCAR regulations prohibit test drives during the season on racetracks that are part of the current season calendar. In January 2009, Greg Biffle set the currently valid course record with an average lap of 218 mph (351 km / h) during such a test drive .
In 2015, the track ceased operations as a test track. The demolition of the line is planned for the beginning of 2016. New houses are to be built in their place.
