David Alexander Beckmann (born April 27, 2000 in Iserlohn ) is a German automobile racing driver . In 2016 and 2017 he started in the European Formula 3 championship . In 2018 he started in the GP3 series for Trident Racing.

Career

Beckmann began his motorsport career in 2006 in kart racing , in which he remained active until 2014. In 2009 he won the ADAC Kart Masters in the Bambini B class . In 2011 he was accepted into the ADAC Sport Foundation's sponsorship team. This year he was the youngest KF3 driver in Europe and came fourth in the Euro Winter Cup . In 2012 Beckmann won both the DMV Kart Championship and the European Bridgestone Cup in the KF3 class . In 2013 Beckmann came second in the German Junior Kart Championship. In addition, he was third in the KFJ class of the WSK Euro Series . In 2014 Beckmann won the German Junior Kart Championship. In the junior card European championship, he was fifth.

In 2015 Beckmann switched to formula racing and received a cockpit in the German and Italian Formula 4 championships with the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV team , which was supervised by Mücke Motorsport . He completed his first Formula 4 races in the Italian Formula 4 Championship. He managed to win the second race right on the first weekend in Vallelunga . Beckmann achieved two more victories in the Italian Formula 4 championship. He skipped an event and was fourth overall at the end of the season. He was thus internally defeated by Robert Shwartzman , who started every race and was third overall. Beckmann had to skip the first event in the German Formula 4 championship in 2015 because he was not yet 15 years old at the time. On his debut weekend in Spielberg , he achieved his first podium finish in the third race with third place. In the penultimate race of the season at Hockenheim, he collided while in the lead with his team-mate Lando Norris . Since the race was stopped because of the accident, Beckmann won his first race in the German Formula 4 championship. Beckmann finished the season as the best formula racing newcomer in fifth place overall. With 166 to 167 points he was defeated by Shwartzman within the team, who had also not started for a race weekend.

In 2016 Beckmann stayed with Mücke Motorsport and competed in the European Formula 3 championship . He skipped the first two events because he had not yet reached the age limit. Two third places were his best results. In the championship he reached 15th place. Beckmann has also been supported by the beverage manufacturer Red Bull since this season . In 2017 Beckmann switched to Van Amersfoort Racing and competed in the European Formula 3 championship again. After three race weekends, he moved to Team Motopark.

In mid-2018 Beckmann switched from Jenzer Motorsport to Trident Racing in the GP3 series . Already on the first race weekend Beckmann was able to achieve his best result of the season to date with fourth place. In the following races he won in Spa, Monza and Sochi, making him the most successful driver in the second half of the season. With a total of three wins, four podium positions and two pole positions, Beckmann finished fifth in the overall standings at the end of the season.

Beckmann announced his plans for the coming season at the end of 2018. In 2019 Beckmann competes for the French racing team ART Grand Prix in the newly founded FIA Formula 3 Championship 2019 .

In 2020 he will drive for the Italian racing team Trident Racing .
