Simo Laaksonen (born September 10, 1998 ) is a Finnish automobile racing driver . It starts in the GP3 series in 2018 .

Laaksonen began his motorsport career in karting in 2009 , where he remained active until 2013. He won the Finnish KF3 championship in 2012 and finished second in the Finnish KF2 championship in 2013. In 2013 he also took part in the European and World Kart Championship.

In 2014 Laaksonen switched to formula racing and made his debut in the French F4 championship. With a second place as the best result, he reached 17th place overall. In 2015, Laaksonen stayed in the French F4 championship and won his first race. He improved to sixth place in the drivers' championship. He also contested a few races in the 2015 Northern European Formula 4 championship . In 2016 Laaksonen moved to Motopark in the German Formula 4 championship . With a win and a second place he reached two podium finishes, with which he finished eleven in the championship.

In 2017 Laaksonen switched to Campos Racing in the Euroformula Open . He was on the podium twice and finished the season in sixth place in the drivers' championship. With 100 to 98 points he prevailed internally against Thiago Vivacqua . In 2018 , Laaksonen stayed with Campos Racing and received a cockpit for the GP3 series .
