Giuseppe Cipriani

Giuseppe Cipriani (born June 9, 1965 ) is an Italian racing driver and entrepreneur. He competed in the Auto GP from 2010 to 2015 . In 2016 he drove in Formula V8 3.5 .

Career in motorsport

Cipriani began his motorsport career in 1988 in the Barber Saab Pro Series , which he finished in tenth place. In 1989 he switched to the Italian Formula 3 championship for two years and competed in a total of eleven races. He was left without points.

After Cipriani had ended his active motorsport career in 1991, he founded the Italian-based racing team Il Barone Rampante , which competed in Formula 3000 from 1991 to 1993 . In their debut year, Cipriani's team won several races and, with Alessandro Zanardi, was runner-up of the year; then the racing team dropped out and ceased racing in the middle of the 1993 season.

In 2008, Cipriani initially returned to motorsport for two Formula Palmer Audi races . He then also took part in three races of the Formula Palmer Audi autumn championship. In 2009, the Italian decided to continue his motorsport career at the age of 43 and started the entire season in the Formula Palmer Audi. With two ninth places as the best results he finished 14th overall. In 2010 Cipriani contested his second season in the Formula Palmer Audi and finished the season with a sixth place as the best result in eleventh place overall.

After Cipriani already the last race weekend of the 2010 season for Durango in the Auto GP had made its debut and has the 26th place in the overall standings, he was 2011 taken by Durango for the full season under contract. While his teammate Giovanni Venturini scored 76 points with wins, Cipriani scored 2 points. He finished the season in 20th place in the drivers' championship. In 2012 , Cipriani moved to Campos Racing within the series that has now been renamed the Auto GP World Series . On the Hungaroring he was in the lead for a few laps in the sprint race, but did not manage to stay in the top group for a long time. This weekend he achieved his best Auto-GP result with two sixth places. He was 14th in the drivers' championship.

In 2013 , Cipriani stayed in the Auto GP. He was given a cockpit with the Ibiza Racing Team , a new racing team that he was also a co-owner. After the third race weekend, Cipriani paused until the end of the season for health reasons. He was in 21st place overall. He also took part in two races in the Superstars Series and completed test drives in the IndyCar Series for Dale Coyne Racing . In 2014 Cipriani drove again for Ibiza Racing in the Auto GP. With a third place at the season opener, he achieved his only Auto-GP podium. He finished eleventh in the drivers' championship. He also completed two races in the Euro V8 Series . In the 2015 Auto GP season , Cipriani contested all four races for the Ibiza Racing Team. He finished seventh in the championship. In addition, he competed in the Italian GT Championship and the Boss GP .

In 2016 Cipriani switched to the Durango Racing Team in Formula V8 3.5 . Eighth place was his best result and he finished 17th in the drivers' championship.

Personal

Together with his father Arrigo , he runs the luxury hotel and restaurant group "Cipriani".
