Alfonso Celis junior (born September 18, 1996 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican racing driver . He competed in Formula V8 3.5 from 2014 to 2017 .

Career

Celis began his motorsport career in karting in 2009 , where he remained active until 2011. In 2011 he also made his debut in touring car racing and won the Campeonato Turismos de Velocidad 1800cc with five wins from seven races. He also took part in two formula sports races in the LATAM Challenge Series . In 2012 Celis completed the Formula BMW Talent Cup , a training competition.

In 2013 Celis started in several formula racing championships. He was first third in the winter series of the Panam GP Series . In the following main series he won a race and reached seventh place overall. In Europe he competed for Fortec Competition in the northern European Formula Renault . With a third place as the best result, Celis was in 14th place overall at the end of the season. In addition, Celis took part in one racing weekend each in the British and European Formula 3 championships for Fortec .

In 2014 Celis received a cockpit at Status Grand Prix and competed for the racing team in the GP3 series . While his teammates Nick Yelloly and Richie Stanaway won races and scored regularly, Celis only scored once with a seventh place. He finished the season in 21st place overall. In addition, Celis took part in a Formula Renault 3.5 event for Tech 1 Racing and in a European Formula 3 championship event for Fortec Motorsports. In early 2015 , Celis competed for Giles Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series . He was 17th in the drivers' championship. Celis then completed a dual program. For ART Grand Prix he competed in the GP3 series . There he finished the season with a third place as the best result in twelfth place in the drivers' standings. For AVF he started in Formula Renault 3.5 . With a fourth place as the best result, he reached 16th place overall. In addition, Celis became a test driver for the Formula 1 racing team Force India in November 2015 .

In 2016 , Celis stayed with AVF in Formula V8 3.5, the renamed Formula Renault 3.5. While his team-mate Tom Dillmann won the championship title, Celis improved to eleventh place in the championship with a third place as the best result. In addition, Celis remained a Formula 1 test driver with Force India in 2016 .
