Yū Kanamaru
Yū Kanamaru ( Japanese 金丸 悠 , Kanamaru Yū ; born May 13, 1994 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese racing car driver . He competed in Formula V8 3.5 from 2015 to 2017 .
Career
Kanamaru began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 , which he remained active in until 2011. He won several kart championships in Japan. He was also fourth in 2010 and sixth in 2011 in the CIK FIA Kart World Championship . In 2012 he switched to the single-seater racing and was at KTR a cockpit in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . A 17th place was his best result and he was 39th in the drivers' championship. He also drove for KRT in the northern European Formula Renault . There he decided a race for himself and reached 16th place in the drivers' championship. In 2013 Kanamaru stayed with KRT. In the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, he again failed to score any points and was 31st in the overall ranking. In the Northern European Formula Renault, he took part in three out of seven events.
In 2014 Kanamaru switched to the Euroformula Open at EmiliodeVillota Motorsport . He scored four podium finishes and finished fourth in the championship. He also took part in the Macau Grand Prix for Carlin . In 2015 Kanamaru completed his second Euroformula Open season for EmiliodeVillota Motorsport. With a win he improved to third place in the drivers' standings. In addition, he joined the Formula Renault 3.5 for the seventh race weekend . There he started for Pons Racing , with their team manager Emilio de Villota jr. he already worked together in the Euroformula Open.
In 2016 Kanamaru switched completely to Formula V8 3.5 , which in the previous year was still called Formula Renault 3.5. He received a cockpit at Teo Martín Motorsport . His previous team from Emilio de Vilotta jr. was absorbed in the racing stable. Kanamaru achieved two fourth places as the best results and finished the season in eighth place overall.
