Leonardo Cordeiro

Leonardo Santos Cordeiro (born November 8, 1989 in São José dos Campos ) is a former Brazilian racing car driver . He became the South American Formula 3 champion in 2009 . He competed in the GP3 series in 2010 and 2011 .

Career

Like most motorsport enthusiasts, Cordeiro began his career in karting , in which he was active from 2003 to 2006. In 2006 he also made his debut in formula racing and competed in one race each in Formula Sao Paulo and the Argentine Formula Renault . In 2007 he switched completely to formula racing and started for Lecor Sports in the South American Formula 3 championship . After finishing 17th overall in his first season, he moved to the master racing team Cesário Fórmula in 2008 . Cordeiro decided one race for himself, was on the podium in another seven races and at the end of the season finished fourth overall behind his team-mate Pedro Enrique , who was runner-up. In 2009 he stayed with Cesário Fórmula and contested his third season in the South American Formula 3. He dominated the season, won 10 of 18 races and secured the championship title from Claudio Cantelli .

In 2010 Cordeiro moved to Europe to join the newly founded GP3 series . He started as a team-mate of Michael Christensen and Miki Monras for MW Arden . He scored only one point and finished 27th overall. In 2011 , Cordeiro played his second GP3 season for Carlin . He remained without points and finished the season in 30th place in the drivers' championship.

In 2012 Cordeiro switched to GT racing. He finished second in the Brazilian GT4 championship with four wins.
