Javier Villa García (born October 5, 1987 , Colunga , Asturias ) is a Spanish racing driver . He was active in the GP2 series from 2006 to 2009 . In 2011 he competed in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Career

In 1998 Javier Villa started his motorsport career in karting , in which he was active until he switched to the Spanish Formula Junior in 2003. The following year, Villa drove in the Spanish Formula 3 championship for the EV and Elide teams and finally finished ninth in the overall standings. In 2005, Villa was also active in the Spanish Formula 3 and drove for Racing Engineering for the first time . At the end of the season he finished fourth in the overall standings. In the Spanish Formula 3, Villa won a total of three times.

In 2006 , Villa stayed with Racing Engineering and started in the GP2 series for the first time . As Adam Carroll's team-mate , he didn't score any points and ended up 26th in the overall standings. Villa also drove a number of Spanish Formula 3 races for his team. The following year , Villa won his first race in the GP2 series in the Magny-Cours sprint race . In the further course of the season Villa won the sprint races on the Nürburgring and the Hungaroring . At the end of the season he finished sixth overall with 42 points. In 2008 Villa drove for Racing Engineering in the GP2 series. The season was disappointing: while Villa only got 8 points in the season and finally finished 17th overall, his team-mate Giorgio Pantano won the championship title of the GP2 series. In 2008 Villa also took part in a race at the International GT Open .

After four years with Racing Engineering, Villa switched to Super Nova Racing and started for his new team in both the GP2 Asia series season 2008/2009 and the GP2 series 2009 . After a good start to the season in Shanghai in which Villa finished fourth in the main race and third in the sprint race, he only managed one more place in the points. At the end of the season he finished tenth in the overall standings. Villa's teammate in the regular GP2 series was Luca Filippi . The Super Nova driver achieved three podium finishes and was tenth overall at the end of the season.

For the second race weekend of the 2009/2010 season , Villa returned to the GP2 Asia series and started the rest of the season for Arden International . With two third places as the best results, he finished fourth overall at the end of the season. Later in the year he only took part in three races in the Australian Mini Challenge and was 26th in the drivers' championship.

In 2011 Villa received a contract with the Italian racing team Proteam Motorsport , for which he competed in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in a BMW 320 TC . He achieved a podium finish with a third place and was regularly in the points. As the best driver of his team, he finished the season in twelfth place overall. In 2012 Villa was initially confirmed for the WTCC by Proteam Motorsport, but it was announced a little later that his compatriot Isaac Tutumlu would receive his cockpit.
