Marco Antonio Barba López (born November 10, 1985 in Seville ) is a Spanish racing car driver . He is a brother of the racing driver Álvaro Barba . In 2010 he won the championship title of the European F3 Open .

Career

Barba began his motorsport career in karting in 2000 , which he practiced until 2003. In 2002 he also made his debut in formula racing in the Spanish Formula Renault Junior, in which he was active until 2004. After taking 12th place overall in 2003, he won the runner-up title in 2004 behind Michael Herck . He also made his debut in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship , in which he took part in three races. In 2005, Barba started in the Spanish Formula 3 and finished tenth overall and third in the B-class in this category with two wins. In 2006 he started again in Spanish Formula 3. With a win, he finished seventh in the championship this season. Barba also made his debut in Formula Renault 3.5 this year , where he competed in six races. In 2007 Barba played his third full season in the Spanish Formula 3 championship and this time he managed to win the runner-up title behind his teammate and compatriot Máximo Cortés . He was only four points short of winning the title.

In 2008 Barba switched to Draco Racing in Formula Renault 3.5 and became a teammate of Belgian Bertrand Baguette . At the end of the season Barba finished 14th overall and was clearly beaten by his teammate, who finished seventh with a win. In 2009 the Spaniard stayed with Draco Racing along with Baguette. While Baguette won the championship title, Barba achieved ninth place overall with two second places as the best result. Baguette had scored more than three times as many points as Barba.

In 2010 Barba switched to the European F3 Open , the successor series of the Spanish Formula 3. Starting for Cedars Motorsport , he won 6 of 16 races and won the championship against Callum MacLeod with 154 to 112 points. He also took part in a GP3 series race weekend for Jenzer Motorsport as a substitute for the injured Simon Trummer . In 2011 Barba took part in the Auto GP for Campos Racing . After the first three events, Barba decided to interrupt his motorsport career and ended the season prematurely. At the end of the season he finished 15th overall.
