Santiago Urrutia
Santiago Urrutia Lausarot (born August 30, 1996 in Miguelete ) is a Uruguayan racing car driver . In 2015 he won the Pro Mazda Championship . In 2016 he started in Indy Lights .
Career
Urrutia began his motorsport career in 2006 in kart racing , in which he remained active until 2011. In 2011 he also made his debut in formula racing . Urrutia competed in four Formula Abarth races for Island Motorsport . He was 18th in the Italian and 21st in the European classification. In 2012, Urrutia competed in all Formula Abarth races for BVM . He won three and was on the podium a total of eleven times. In the overall ranking he reached fourth place.
In 2013 Urrutia moved to RP Motorsport in the European F3 Open . He won two races and achieved a total of eight podium finishes. While his teammate Sandy Stuvik was runner-up, Urrutia finished the season in fourth place overall. In 2014 Urrutia competed for Koiranen GP in the GP3 series . He remained without points and finished the season in 23rd place overall.
In 2015 Urrutia moved to North America for the Pro Mazda Championship for Team Pelfrey . He won three races and won the championship. With 355 to 302 points he prevailed against Neil Alberico . In 2016 Urrutia received a cockpit at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the Indy Lights . He won a race in Birmingham and both in Lexington . Urrutia became the best newcomer. With 361 to 363 points he was defeated by Ed Jones and finished second overall.
