Günther Fischer (police officer)

Günther Fischer (born December 24, 1924 ) is a former German major general of the People's Police and head of department in the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR .

Life

After the Second World War, Fischer became a member of the German People's Police (DVP) and a member of the SED . As VP Inspector (Colonel) he was head of Department PM I of the Main Department of Passport and Registration (HA PM) in the Main Administration of the German People's Police (HVDVP) until 1956 and head of the Main Department of Passport and Registration from 1956 to 1960 (successor to Johannes Dick ). When the ranks were converted in July 1957, he was reassessed by the VP inspector to colonel of the VP. From 1960 to 1974 he was deputy head of the PM main department.

From June 1974 to June 1989 he was again head of the Passport and Registration Department of the Ministry of the Interior (successor to Major General Günter Giel ). On June 20, 1977, he was appointed major general by the chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council , Erich Honecker . Fischer retired in 1989 due to total disability.
