Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda (born May 11, 2000 in Kanagawa ) is a Japanese automobile racing driver . He is part of the Red-Bull Junior Team and the Honda Formula Dream project. Tsunoda occurs in the season 2020 in the FIA Formula 2 Championship at.
Career
Karting
At the age of 4, Tsunoda gained his first experience in karting . In 2009 he finished third in the East Japan Junior Expert Class. In 2010 and 2011 he won the Shin-Tokyo NIC Cup . In 2015 he finished second in the 125cc class of the Japanese Kart Championship.
Formula racing
In 2016 Tsunoda made the leap into the racing car and took part in the last two races of the Japanese Formula 4 championship , which he finished in second and fourth place. He switched to Honda for the 2017 season and, after finishing third in the championship, was able to finish the 2018 season as champions. Tsunoda is part of the Honda Formula Dream project, which promotes young racing drivers.
Tsunoda has also been part of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2019 . The collaboration with Honda in Formula 1 should also result in closer collaboration in the junior teams of Red Bull Racing and Honda.
With the Japanese championship in his pocket, Tsunoda switched to European formula racing. In 2019 he competed in the Euroformula Open with Motorpark as well as in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Jenzer Motorsport . In both series he was able to win a race. In the Euroformula Open it was enough for 4th place in the championship. Finishing ninth in the FIA Formula 3, he couldn't achieve either of the goals he had set himself. Before the season, Tsunoda announced that he wanted to achieve at least fifth place in the FIA Formula 3 and third place in the Euroformula Open.
Tsunoda was also able to secure fourth place in the 2020 Toyota Racing Series , which will also be held with a Formula 3 chassis.
In 2020 Tsunoda moved to the FIA Formula 2 Championship after just one year in Formula 3, where he will compete with Carlin .
Personal
Tsunoda father participated in Gymkhana part -race and Tsunoda took at these events his first attempt in karting. Tsunoda now lives in Switzerland.
