IDA Ireland (Industrial Development Authority) is the Irish business development agency . It was founded in 1949 under the then Minister for Industry and Commerce Daniel Morrissey . In the Lemass era , the IDA played an important role in the advancing industrialization of Ireland. The IDA is seen as an example for numerous agencies for foreign direct investment.

The main role of IDA is to attract foreign direct investment and to attract foreign companies and industries to the Irish market. Irish companies abroad, however, are represented by Enterprise Ireland . The work of IDA is primarily aimed at high-quality investments, especially in the areas of research, IT, high technology and financial services. Non-European companies should thereby consider Ireland (especially Dublin) as their European headquarters.

The IDA played an important role in the 1990s when Ireland experienced massive economic boom under the name of the Celtic Tiger . The IDA has also played an important role in the IT sector in the last few years. Almost all well-known non-European IT companies have an office or their European headquarters in Ireland, for example: eBay , Google , Microsoft , PayPal , Zynga , Twitter , Yahoo and Facebook . To what extent the economic conditions in Ireland at the current time or the fortunes of the IDA influenced the decision of companies to locate in Ireland remains open.

IDA is represented worldwide with a dense network of offices. In its home country Ireland, IDA Ireland operates its headquarters in Dublin . There are also offices in Limerick , Athlone , Sligo , Cork and Galway .

IDA Ireland currently has international offices on five continents:
