Daniel Morrissey

Daniel Morrissey ( Irish Domhnall Ó Muirgheasa , born November 27, 1895 in Nenagh , County Tipperary , † January 1, 1981 ) was an Irish politician of the Irish Labor Party , Cumann na nGaedheal and most recently the Fine Gael .

biography

Morrissey, who worked as an auctioneer , began his political career in 1922 with the election to the MP ( Teachta Dála ) of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ), in which he first represented the interests of the constituency Tipperary Mid, North and South and then for the Irish Labor Party from 1923 to 1933 by Tipperary . During this time he was from May 2, 1928 to 1933 also Vice President of the House of Commons ( Leas-Ceann Comhairle ).

He then represented the constituency of Tipperary from 1933 to 1937 as a member of the Cumann na nGaedheal, before he joined the Fine Gael and was elected to the House of Commons. Between 1937 and 1948 he was still a member of Tipperary and then most recently from 1948 to 1957 of the constituency of Tipperary North .

At the same time he was appointed Minister for Industry and Trade in his cabinet by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John A. Costello on February 18, 1948 after the Fine Gael was elected. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was then Minister of Justice from March 7th until the end of Costello's tenure on June 13, 1951.

In 1957 he renounced a renewed candidacy for the House of Commons and left the Dáil Éireann.
