Nora Owen

Nora Owen (birth name: O'Mahony ; born June 1, 1945 in Dublin ) is a former Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

Nora Owen, who worked as a chemist in the industry , began her national political career in 1981 as a candidate for the Fine Gael with the election of MP ( Teachta Dála ) of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ), in which she defended the interests of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) until her electoral defeat in 1987 Constituency of Dublin North .

In 1989 she was re-elected as a member of the House of Commons, where she again represented the constituency of Dublin North after two subsequent re-elections until 2002 .

After the formation of a coalition government , she was appointed Minister of Justice in his cabinet by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John Bruton on December 15, 1994 and held this office until the end of Bruton's term on June 26, 1997.

After she suffered a defeat in the general election in 2002, she left the Dáil and withdrew from active politics.

Nora Owen is not only a great niece of the leader of the Irish freedom movement Michael Collins , but also the younger sister of Mary Banotti , the 1997 Fine Gael presidential candidate and longtime member of the European Parliament .
