Brian Joseph Lenihan
Brian Joseph Lenihan ( Irish Brian Seosamh Ó Luineacháin , born May 21, 1959 in Dublin ; † June 10, 2011 ibid) was an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ) and most recently finance minister of his home country from 2008 to 2011 .
Life
Lenihan attended Belvedere College and Trinity College in Dublin. He then studied at the University of Cambridge and attended the King's Inns. In 1984 he was admitted to the legal profession and held from 1984 to 1996 lectures in law at Trinity College.
Lenihan was elected for the first time in April 1996 in the constituency of Dublin West in a by-election to fill a vacant seat in the Dáil Éireann and replaced his late father Brian Lenihan senior . Between June 2002 and June 2007 Lenihan was Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice. He then became Minister for Justice (Equality and Law Reform) and held this office until May 2008 when he replaced Brian Cowen , who was now Taoiseach , as Treasury Secretary.
His term of office is shaped by the effects of the banking crisis. In 2010 Ireland's deficit is likely to be over 30% of economic output. At the beginning of October 2010 Lenihan had to revise the estimated cost of bailing out Irish banks, especially the Anglo Irish Bank (AIB), up to 50 billion euros. On November 19, it became apparent to the public that Ireland would use the European Stabilization Mechanism , i.e. loan support from the other EU countries and the IMF . Lenihan was married until his death. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter. Brian Joseph Lenihan was the grandson of the MP ( Teachta Dála ) Patrick Lenihan , the son of the former Tánaiste and Minister Brian Lenihan senior and the brother of the MP Conor Lenihan . The politician Mary O'Rourke is his aunt.
At the turn of the year 2009/2010 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He reported on "intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy " in June 2010, as a result of which he felt better. However, he died on June 10, 2011 as a result of his illness at the age of 52 at his home in West Dublin.
