Michael Moran

Michael Moran ( Irish : Micheál Ó Móráin ; born December 25, 1912 in County Mayo , † May 6, 1983 in Castlebar , Co. Mayo) was an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

biography

Moran studied after school attendance law and later as Solicitor operates.

In 1938 he was elected as a candidate for Fianna Fáil to the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) and after nine subsequent re-elections he represented the constituency of Mayo South until 1969 and then until 1973 the constituency of Mayo West .

On June 26, 1957 he was appointed Minister for the Irish-speaking territories ( Gaeltacht ) by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Éamon de Valera . In the subsequent cabinet of de Valera's successor Seán Lemass , he was Minister for Land between July 23, 1959 and October 11, 1961. After another cabinet reshuffle, he was Minister for Lands and Minister for the Gaeltacht in the cabinets of Lemass and Jack Lynch from October 11, 1961 to March 26, 1968 . Prime Minister Lynch then appointed him Minister of Justice as part of a government reshuffle. Moran held this office until his resignation on May 5, 1970.

In 1973 he left the Dáil Éireann after suffering defeat in the general election.
