Patrick Lindsay

Patrick James Lindsay ( Irish Pádraig Ó Loingsigh ; born January 18, 1914 , † June 29, 1993 ) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

biography

Lindsay, who worked as a lawyer , was elected in 1954 as a candidate for Fine Gael for member of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented the interests of the constituency of Mayo North after his re-election from 1957 to 1961 . On July 2, 1956 he was appointed by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John A. Costello as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education and in the Ministry for the Irish-speaking Areas ( Gaeltacht ). After a government reshuffle, he was finally from October 24, 1956 until the end of Costello's term of office on March 20, 1957 himself Minister for the Gaeltacht.

After he suffered an election defeat in 1961 and left the House of Commons, he became a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) in 1961 and represented the industry and finance group in this until 1965. At the same time he was Vice President of the Senate ( Leas Cathaoirleach ).

In the general election in 1965 he was elected again as a member of the Dáil Éireann, where he again represented the constituency of Mayo North until he was again defeated in 1969 .
