Pat Carey ( Irish Pádraig Ó Ciardha ; born November 9, 1947 in Castlemaine, County Kerry ) is an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil and since 2010 Minister for Community, Equality and the Irish-speaking Territories ( Gaeltacht ).

biography

Carey was a teacher and most recently vice principal of a school and did not begin a national political career until 1997 when he was first elected as a candidate for the Fianna Fáil as a member of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ). Since then, after two re-elections, he has represented the constituency of Dublin North-West .

On June 20, 2007 he was Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Bertie Ahern to Minister of State in the Ministry of Community, Rural and Affairs of the Galtacht and was there as "Junior Minister" responsible for the drug strategy of the government and community affairs.

After Brian Cowen took office as Ahern's successor, he became Minister of State in the Ministry of Defense and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office on May 7, 2008, where he was also responsible for the special role of Government Chief Whip in the House of Commons and the citizenship activity agenda.

As part of a government reshuffle, Pat Carey finally became a member of the government as Minister for Community, Equality and the Affairs of the Gaeltacht on March 23, 2010 as successor to Éamon Ó Cuív .
