Life

Albrecht Blarer, first mentioned in 1379, came from a cloth merchant and patrician family in Constance. His parents were Albrecht and Adelhaid Blarer. Their ancestors came from St. Gallen and were already wealthy merchants there who traded in linen. 1385-1386 he was canon in Constance and studied in Prague . From 1397 to 1407 he was provost of the cathedral , 1406 to 1407 and 1417 to 1422 provost of St. Stephan in Konstanz and from 1431 to 1441 cathedral curator in Konstanz.

After the death of Marquard von Randeggs he was elected Bishop of Constance and on April 18, 1407 by Pope Gregory XII. approved. He received the regalia on March 23, 1408.

He formed an alliance against Appenzell with Duke Friedrich IV of Austria, the city of Constance and the Swabian knighthood , which was defeated in 1408 in the Battle of Bregenz . Under Albrecht the financial situation of the diocese improved. After the election of Alexander V , he switched from Roman to Pisan obedience .

Since 1409 he negotiated with Margrave Rudolf III. von Hachberg-Sausenburg and his son Otto von Hachberg on the transfer of the diocese in return for compensation. In 1410 he resigned voluntarily and Otto followed him as bishop. In July 1410 his successor granted him a fixed sum in money, annual grain, oats and six loads of Meersburger wine as well as a right of residence on the Küssaburg, where he remained as priest Albrecht until the end of his life. In old age he became blind and suffered from depression. From 1429 he lived together with Bilgeri von Heudorf , who took his seat in the castle.
