Marquard von Randegg († December 28, 1406 ) was Bishop of Minden in 1398 and Bishop of Constance from 1398 to 1406 .

Life

Marquard von Randegg (also Randeck) came from the Swabian family of the gentlemen von Randeck. Ancestral seat was Randeck Castle ; it is located today in the Ochsenwang district, part of the municipality of Bissingen an der Teck in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg . His father was Eberhard von Randeck, whose brother Marquard was Bishop of Augsburg and Patriarch of Aquileja .

Marquard's date of birth is unknown; he is first mentioned in 1382 as a licentiate and lecturer at the University of Vienna . In 1392 he was elected rector and canon of St. Stephen . He was canon in Augsburg and Eichstätt . In 1395 Pope Boniface IX appointed him . to his trainee lawyer and gave him the office of papal collector in the Archdiocese of Salzburg .

On March 20, 1388 he became Bishop of Minden , but a short time later, on October 25, 1388, Bishop of Constance . Marquard succeeded in ending the schism that had persisted in the diocese since 1378 and in introducing a modern court system.

On December 22nd, 1402, as Bishop of Konstanz, in association with the cathedral chapter, he confirmed the conversion of the secular parochial church into a monastery church of the Pauline monastery in Bonndorf and increased the foundation by renouncing his shares in the income of the Bonndorf parish.

On February 8, 1403, he gave his consent to the foundation of a Carthusian monastery in Basel and named the Carthusian monastery St. Margarethental .
