Johann Jakob Blarer von Wartensee (* around 1575 ; † March 9, 1654 in Ellwangen ) was a prince provost of the prince provost of Ellwangen in the 17th century .

Life

His parents were the Ellwang court master and town bailiff Diethelm Blarer von Wartensee and Sidonia / Siguna von Hausen, sister of Wolfgang von Hausen , prince provost in Ellwangen 1584-1603. At the age of 11, Johann Jakob became Ellwanger in 1586. He was also a canon in Basel and provost in Constance ; In Constance he rebuilt the Blarerschen Domherrnhof from 1612 to 1620.

At the age of about 14 he was enrolled at the University of Dillingen on May 5, 1589 . He also studied in Freiburg im Breisgau and at the Italian universities of Padua , Siena , Perugia and Bologna . On October 10, 1600 he became a voting capitular in Ellwangen; the monastery chapter consisted of twelve aristocratic canons and the prince provost since the conversion in 1460 into a secular, imperial monastery. He was elected prince provost on January 27, 1621; his predecessor died on Christmas 1620. As a result, he resigned himself to the post of canon in Basel, but not to the post of canon in Constance. During the Thirty Years' War he stayed with his collegiate capitulars in exile in Bavaria and Austria (Salzburg and Tyrol) from 1631 to 1635 . In 1639 he laid the foundation stone for the Lauretan chapel on the Schönenberg , the predecessor of today's pilgrimage church ; under him in 1644 two chapels were added.

After a reign of just over 23 years, in which 20 new canons were recorded, he died and was buried in the monastery church, today's Basilica of St. Vitus .

A total of five people from the noble family of Blar von Wartensee ( Rorschacherberg ) were canons of the princely provost of Ellwangen.
