Johann Rudolf von Rechberg

Johann Rudolf Graf von Rechberg and Rothenlöwen zu Hohenrechberg (* 1606 in Donzdorf ; † April 6, 1660 in Ellwangen ) was a prince provost of the prince provost of Ellwangen and administrator of the bishopric of Augsburg in the 17th century .

Life

His parents were Hans Wilhelm von Rechberg and Anna Regina von Rechberg. He was born in Donzdorf, owned by Rechberg since 1397. With his brothers Bernhard Bero and Heinrich Alexander he was enrolled at the University of Dillingen on December 15, 1616 . On May 9, 1623, he received the canonical for the deceased canon Johann Jakob Humpiß / Hundbiß von Waltrams in the prince provost of Ellwangen. A year later he was enrolled in Bourges , where he became procurator of the German and Belgian nation on April 5, 1615 . On July 22nd, 1626 he rose to the rank of imperial count , enrolled in Siena on November 4th of the same year and became consiliar of the German nation on December 21st . In January 1628 he became canon in Eichstätt for the deceased Sixtus Werner Vogt von Altensummerau and Praßberg and in May received the office of domicellar . Here he was ordained a subdeacon in 1630 . On February 3, 1631 he was also canon in Augsburg for the resigned Karl von Metternich . On June 18, 1635, he received the title of capitular and thus the right to vote in the prince provost of Ellwangen. On August 11, 1637 he was also the capitular in Eichstätt, on February 3, 1638 cathedral dean and on February 26, 1638 provost of the new monastery “To Our Lady” at the parish church (demolished in the 19th century). In 1645, Sigmund Franz Archduke in Austria, coadjutor in Augsburg, requested him from the Eichstätter cathedral chapter for a year as chief steward, which was approved. On January 26, 1646, the Augsburg cathedral chapter elected him administrator of the Augsburg bishopric; thereupon he resigned on February 26, 1647 to the deanship in Eichstätt. On January 26, 1649 he received the title of provost of the cathedral in Augsburg. He became prince provost in Ellwangen on April 27, 1654; he resigned himself to the Hochstift administration in December of the same year. On May 7, 1656 he became governor of Dillingen . He died four years later and was buried in the south transept of the former monastery church, today's Basilica of St. Vitus . His coat of arms is placed above the eastern triumphal arch of the church with two other coats of arms.

A total of ten people from the von Rechberg-Donzdorf- Illereichen - Mindelheim family were canons of the Princely Provost of Ellwangen.
