Paddy Power

Patrick "Paddy" Power ( Irish Pádraig de Paor , born November 19, 1928 in Dublin , † August 14, 2013 in Caragh , Naas , County Kildare ) was an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

biography

Power initially worked as a teacher (National Teacher) after graduating. His political career began in 1969 with the election to the deputy ( Teachta Dála ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). There he represented the constituency of Kildare until 1989 . He was also a member of the European Parliament for Ireland from 1977 to 1979 .

In the first cabinet of Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Charles J. Haughey he was Minister for Forestry and Fisheries from December 1979 to June 1981. In Haughey's second administration, Power was Secretary of Defense between March and December 1982 .

In 1989 he did not run again for the Dáil. Instead, his mandate was taken over by his son Seán Power .
