Seán Barrett ( Irish Seán Ó Bairéad , born August 9, 1944 in Dún Laoghaire ) is an Irish politician ( Fine Gael ).

Barrett grew up in Dún Laoghaire. He served on the City Council of Dublin ( Dublin City Council to) for eleven years and was at this time from 1981 to 1982 its chairman. In 1981 Barrett was first elected to the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament. After several successful re-elections, he decided not to run again in 2002. As a Member of Parliament ( Teachta Dála ) he held various ministerial posts from 1982 to 1987 , was Chief Whip, and from December 15, 1994 to May 23, 1995, Minister of State in the Ministry of Defense, before becoming Minister of Defense from May 23, 1995 to June 26, 1997 Defense and Navy was. On May 24, 2007 Barrett was re-elected for his party in the Dáil Éireann.

From 2005 to 2006 he was President of the Bective Rangers Rugby Club . He is married and has five children. The family lives in Killiney , County Dublin .
