Bobby Molloy

Robert "Bobby" Molloy ( Irish Roibeard Ó Maolmhuaidh ; born July 6, 1936 in Galway , † October 2, 2016 ) was an Irish politician and sat from 1965 to 2002 in the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

Molloy was first elected in 1965 for the Fianna Fáil in the constituency of Galway West in the Dáil Éireann. During the 19th Dáil he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education until May 9, 1970, and then became Minister of Local Administration, an office he held until March 14, 1973. During the 21st Dáil, Molloy was again given a ministerial post. This time he was Minister of Defense from July 5, 1977 to December 11, 1979.

In 1986, Molloy moved from Fianna Fáil to the Progressive Democrats . When his new party formed a coalition government with Fianna Fáil in 1989, Molloy was energy minister from July 12, 1989 until his resignation on January 4, 1993. Most recently, he held several ministerial posts during the 28th Dáil . In the elections for the 29th Dáil Éireann, he did not run.

Molloy was also a member of Galway City Council and was mayor of the city from 1968 to 1969. He died at the age of 80, leaving behind his wife and four children.
