Dick Roche

Dick Roche ( Irish Risteárd de Róiste , born March 30, 1947 in Wexford , County Wexford ) is an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

biography

After completing his studies, Roche worked as a lecturer and began his national political career as a candidate for Fianna Fáil in 1987, when he was elected Member of Parliament ( Teachta Dála ) of the Lower House ( Dáil Éireann ), in which he initially represented the constituency of Wicklow until 1992 . During this time he was chairman of the Parliament's Joint Committee ( Oireachtas ) on state-supported bodies from 1989 to 1992 .

After leaving the House of Commons, he was nominated on December 2, 1992 by then Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Albert Reynolds as a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) and represented the administration group in this until 1997.

In 1997 he was re-elected a member of the Dáil and has since returned to the Wicklow constituency . During this time he was from February 19, 1998 to 2002 chairman of the all-party committee in the initiative committee for strategic management.

On June 6, 2002, Prime Minister Bertie Ahern appointed him Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking on his first government office as “Junior Minister”. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed Minister for Environment, Cultural Heritage and Local Administration on September 29, 2004.

Since June 14, 2007 he has again been Minister of State in the Irish Foreign Ministry and as such responsible for European affairs.
