Ernest Blythe ( Irish Earnán de Blaghd ) (born April 13, 1889 , † February 23, 1975 ) was an Irish politician of the Cumann na nGaedheal , Vice President of the Executive Council and several ministers.

biography

Blythe was appointed Minister of Commerce and Commerce on June 17, 1919 by Éamon de Valera , President of the Dáil Éireann , and held this office until September 9, 1922 under the chairman of the Provisional Government, Michael Collins . At the same time he was the acting Minister for Economic Affairs from July to September 1922.

After the death of Collins he was under his successor William Thomas Cosgrave from August 30, 1922 to October 15, 1923 Minister for Local Administration.

After Cosgrave was President of the Executive Council on December 6, 1922, he was also Minister of Finance on September 21, 1923 , an office he held until March 9, 1932. Cosgrave appointed him on July 4, 1927, in addition to the Vice-President of the Executive Council, an office which corresponds to today's Deputy Prime Minister ( Tánaiste ). In addition, on October 12, 1927, he also became Minister for Post and Telegraphy.

After the loss of power of his Cumann na nGaedheal to the Fianna Fáil , led by de Valera , he left the government on March 9, 1932.
