James "Jim" McDaid ( Irish Séamus Mac Daibhéad , born October 3, 1949 in Termon , County Donegal ) is a former Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

biography

After attending school, he studied medicine and after graduating as a Medical Doctor (MD) worked as a doctor .

He began his national political career as a candidate for the Fianna Fáil in 1989 with the first election as a deputy ( Teachta Dála ) of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ). In this he represented the constituency of Donegal North East after four re-elections until November 2, 2010 .

After the Fianna Fáil's electoral success, he was appointed Minister for Tourism, Sports and Leisure in his cabinet on June 26, 1997 by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Bertie Ahern . As part of a cabinet reshuffle, Ahern appointed him Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport on June 18, 2002 . This led to the fact that he resigned from the cabinet as a "junior minister" because of this office. On October 4, 2004, he resigned from this office.

At the beginning of November 2010, McDaid gave up his parliamentary mandate and brought the government under Brian Cowen into serious trouble, since it now depends on the approval of two independents to pass a particularly controversial budget.
