Paddy Donegan

Patrick "Paddy" Sarsfield Donegan ( Irish : Pádraig Ó Donnagáin) (born October 29, 1923 in Mainistir Bhuithe (Monasterboice) ; † November 26, 2000 ibid) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

biography

Donegan originally worked as a businessman and farmer . His political career began in 1954, when he was first elected Member of the House of Commons ( Teachta Dála ) ( Dáil Éireann ). There he represented the constituency of Louth for one term . After his electoral defeat in 1957, he was a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) as a representative of the interests of agriculture until 1961 . On October 4, 1961, he was re-elected as a member of the Dáil, in which he again represented the constituency of Louth until 1981 .

In March 1973 he was Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Liam Cosgrave for Defense appointed. After a violent government crisis because of the Emergency Powers Act, which ultimately led to the resignation of President Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh , he became Minister for Land on December 2, 1976 and after the ministry was renamed, Minister for Fisheries on February 9, 1977. He held this office until May 25, 1977.

In 1981 Donegan renounced running for the lower house and withdrew from political life.
