James Geoghegan

James Geoghegan (* 8. December 1886 , † 26. March 1951 ) was an Irish politician of Fianna Fáil , Attorney General and judges at the Supreme Court .

biography

After attending school he studied law and worked as a lawyer after completing his studies .

As a candidate for Fianna Fáil he was elected on June 13, 1930 in a by -election to the Deputy ( Teachta Dála ) of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) and, after two subsequent re-elections, he represented the constituency of Longford until December 22, 1936. Westmeath .

On March 9, 1932, as Minister of Justice, he became a member of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State and held this office for almost eleven months until February 8, 1933.

On November 2, 1936 he was appointed Attorney General . However, this office he held only less than two months and came after his waiver of his parliamentary mandate on December 22, 1936 from his position as a judge of the Supreme Court ( Supreme Court ) of Ireland to which he belonged until his resignation for health reasons 1949th

His son Hugh Geoghegan was a judge on the High Court and from 2000 to 2010 on the Supreme Court, making it the first judge whose father was already there.
