Ten pilots started with Volkswagen and six with Mercedes-Benz engines.
Qualifying
The first qualifying took place on a dry track. The fastest here was Roberto Merhi ahead of Daniel Juncadella and Felix Rosenqvist.
In the second part of the qualifying it was raining and none of the drivers was able to improve their times. Under these weather conditions, Marco Wittmann was the fastest, followed by Roberto Merhi and Kevin Magnussen.
run
At the start, the two Prema Powerteam drivers got off well. Roberto Merhi drove directly to the right to fend off an attack by his team mate. They collided with each other and the cars got stuck and drove very slowly. The drivers directly behind were still able to swerve, but there were further contacts in the rear field. Juncadella had to park his vehicle immediately, Merhi continued the race. Pipo Derani and Carlos Muñoz also finished their race on the first lap.
The main beneficiary of the accident at the start was Felix Rosenqvist, who was in charge of the race. Marco Wittmann and Kevin Magnussen drove behind him.
Merhi, who now tackled the race from the very rear, overtook several vehicles in the race and came in ninth in the end. After the race, however, he was disqualified because of the collision at the start.
Rosenqvist extended his lead over Wittmann throughout the race and won the race. Wittmann, who also had a large lead over his pursuers, came second. Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, had to defend himself against Nigel Melker for the entire race, but managed to hold his position until the finish line.
