Andy Pilgrim
Andrew "Andy" Pilgrim (born August 18, 1956 in Nottingham ) is a British racing driver and racing team owner who has been a US citizen since 1998 .
Racing career
Andy Pilgrim's career began in the 1980s in various one-make cups . In 1989 he went to the USA and competed in the SCCA Corvette Challenge . He finished the championship as sixth overall. From 1991 he started regularly in the IMSA GTP series and the successor championship, the IMSA GT series . In the same year he made his debut in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring .
In Daytona, Pilgrim was registered almost every year until 2017 . After finishing fifth overall in 1997 and fourth in 2001 , he won this 24-hour race in 2004 together with Christian Fittipaldi , Terry Borcheller and Forest Barber in the Doran JE4 . At Sebring, the best placement was third place with Bob Wollek and Thierry Boutsen in the 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Evo .
In the early 2000s he was a works driver at Corvette Racing and in 2002 was third overall in the GTS class of the American Le Mans Series . At the Le Mans 24-hour race , he finished third in 2000 and second in 2003 in the GTS class.
By the end of the 2017 season, Pilgrim, who also drove a few races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup in 2011 , had started in 156 sports car races. He celebrated seven overall and 17 class wins. He runs his own racing team under the name Andy Pilgrim Racing .
