Sergei Yuryevich Slobin

Sergei Jurjewitsch Slobin , also Sergei Zlobin ( Russian Серге́й Ю́рьевич Зло́бин ; born May 29, 1970 in Moscow ) is a Russian automobile racing driver . He is the father of the racing car driver Nikita Slobin .

Career

Slobin switched from rallying to formula racing in 1998 and initially competed in Russian racing series. He became champion of the Russian F1600 in 1998. From 1999 to 2002 he was active in the Russian Formula 3 championship. After he had finished eighth there in 2000, he was both 2001 and 2002 fifth in the championship. In 2000 Slobin also contested a race in the Italian Formula Renault and in 2001 a race in the Euro Formula 3000 .

In 2002 , Slobin was a test driver for the Minardi Formula 1 team . He became the first Russian to drive a Formula 1 car. He also started six out of nine races in the Euro Formula 3000 this season. However, he did not score any points in this racing series.

After a year's break Zlobin returned in 2004 back into motorsport. He started seven races in the FIA GT Championship and finished 69th in the overall standings. He also took part in a Superfund Euro Formula 3000 race and completed Formula 1 test drives for Minardi. In 2005, Zlobin competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race and a run in the Italian Formula 3000, the former Euro Formula 3000. In 2006 Slobin started again in the FIA ​​GT Championship.

Slobin has not participated in any international racing series since 2007.

Others

In September 2007, Slobin survived a car bomb attack. A bomb was placed in his Mercedes-Benz G-Class which exploded while driving. Slobin was slightly injured in the attack.
